The momentum is building…

The Lotus Festival looks like being an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all Lotus Cortina fans with a huge gathering of both Mk1 and Mk2 examples in attendance to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic model.

When Colin Chapman turned Ford’s humble family saloon into a giant-killing race winner the Lotus Cortina became a firm favourite with everyone from Grand Prix to getaway drivers – and even the Police themselves! That will be reflected in the huge display brought together by the Lotus Cortina Register, for which the Festival will also be its National Event. Amongst the cars on show you will find original Press cars, former Police cars and even one used by Jim Clark, former F1 World- and British Saloon Car Champion (driving a Cortina of course!).

“The club has had a fantastic response from the membership to attend this years’ Lotus Festival,” says the Register’s Simon Godfrey. “At the moment we have well over seventy cars coming but I anticipate that this will rise still further. It will be without doubt the largest-ever gathering of Lotus Cortina’s.”

In addition, there will of course be a great grid of cars contesting the Lotus Cortina-only races, so an occasion not to be missed!
